WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a form of exercise that takes its name from Joseph Pilates. He was a frail child suffering from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. His drive and determination to overcome these ailments led him to create a method which included certain principles - concentration, alignment, centering, breathing, co-ordination, flow.
Throughout any Pilates class you will focus on these principles and the essence is always about the quality of movement rather than the quantity. Precise, controlled and flowing movements mean that you can correct imbalances in the body that may have created tension and pain. This is why Pilates plays a key role in many rehabilitation programmes.

Mat work classes - The virtual group classes run online through Zoom. These classes are recommended for those who want the social aspect of a group environment but the convenience and comfort of moving in your own home. You will need a mat, cushion or small pillow and a theraband (long stretchy band)
Equipment classes - Joseph Pilates invented a system using springs, pulleys and straps to provide a supportive environment to re-educate movement patterns. His inspiration came from everyday furniture like a bed or chair, which he imaginatively adapted. The main equipment he invented includes - a reformer, a trapeze table, a ladder barrel and a chair. These machines provide assistance and/or resistance for your body, hence why it is accessible to everyone.
The full studio equipment class provides a bespoke programme that will focus on your own individual needs and goals.
